Most of us parents have figured out that when it comes to raising kids, there is (unfortunately) no instruction manual. With society perpetually barreling further into modernity, it can be easy to lose sight of what really counts- love. When I was just ten years old, my parents came to America from the Dominican Republic with nothing. Despite all of their struggles, however, I was loved. My parents encouraged me relentlessly. Even when they couldn’t help me with my homework because they didn’t know English, they instilled in me the idea that education is the key to success. My mom sacrificed her own comfort and time to put me through college and support me on my journey to success. For that, I am not afraid to proclaim that I love (and appreciate) my Mami!
