In a conversation with someone who speaks English as a second language or with an accent, have you noticed yourself speaking loudly? As if the volume of your voice will magically translate the words? Noticing this trend when folks addressed me or my family, I started to track my own behavior when presented with a similar situation. I discovered that I slowed my verbal cadence or pace in an effort to be considerate. But sometimes language barriers cannot be overcome with pace or volume.
